A few hours ago, I spoke to my mom and sister on the phone. We talked about a lot of things including the current economic situation in Nigeria. The Nigerian economy is pretty bad at the moment. There is an unbelievable level of inflation going on. The prices of goods and services have plummeted 1000%. To give you an idea; goods that used to cost 1000 Naira are now 5,000 Naira. $1 is now equivalent to 200 Naira. Now you get the gist. We are supposed to be one of the top oil producing and exporting countries in the world; yet now, the masses struggle to get gas to power their generators and fans. It is brutal in Nigeria. My mom told me that President Muhammadu Buhari has just ordered the Nigerian Customs to close the borders. What that means is that there are no goods being imported into or exported out of Nigeria. It is driving the prices of goods out of the roof. I don't know what is driving the president to act this way but it's pretty bad; whatever it is. Although, I was one of those people who supported Buhari when he was running for office but now, looking at the current economic crisis in Nigeria, I truly regret my decision. In the wake of this unbelievable inflation, there are workers who have not been paid for months. While those who get paid, their salaries remain the same. Thousands of workers are being laid off everyday because employers can't afford to keep their services any longer. Please, wherever you are reading this post, pray for Nigeria. At least my mom and sisters are not homeless or hungry. They are doing ok in the current situation. However, there are millions of Nigerians who NEED HELP! It is because of these people that I write this blog. Tonight, before you go to bed, please say a prayer for those millions of homeless Nigerians who can't afford to live in such a bad economy. Please share this post! Thank you.
