When I was growing up in my father's house, I remember being surrounded by family members and people who mostly told ne that I couldn't achieve anything amazing. There were more negative voices coming to me than positive ones. But I am so thankful for the love of Christ! For some reason that I cannot explain, some of my siblings who didn't care much about me used to let me come to church with them. I remember going with them one particular Sunday and listening to the WORD of God about God's UNCONDITIONAL love and divine provisions. Something clicked in me and from that day onwards, I stopped trying too hard to make my siblings like me or approve of me. They only showed some type of kind interest in me when they needed me to run errands or do their chores for them. Because of the hard time they gave me, I always made sure that I tried my hardest to stay focused on my dreams and what I wanted to achieve. See, back then, my dream was to graduate from high school and go to college. At the time, none of my mother's children had gone to the university. Of course my mom's side of the family was always ridiculed and laughed at for that. I hated it all; the ridicules and laughter that came from my step siblings. They thought that none of my mother's children was EVER going to get a university degree and for some crazy reason, my late father would take sides with them. My dad didn't even attempt to pay for a university education for any of my mom's children. Of course he contributed to some of my step sibling's university education. I was determined to break that chain of illiteracy in terms of higher education amongst my mom's children and THANK GOD I DID! It was a very tough road to travel but God was with me.
When I started having the dream to get an education in America, they ridiculed and laughed at me. They said it was not going to happen. To be honest with you, even I thought that I was CRAZY for having such BIG AND OUT OF THIS WORLD KIND OF DREAM. I mean how could I even DARE?! When my dad couldn't even pay my very low public high school fees. Thank God for the power of VISION! The more they ridiculed and laughed at me, the more encouraged and DETERMINED I was to ACHIEVE my dreams of getting an education abroad. I prayed about it everyday and FERVENTLY! I held unto God's word that says "ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD!" I didn't allow their ridicules to make me lose hope and give up on my dreams.
