Hey guys, thanks for visiting my blog today. Some of you may already be aware of this but for those who aren't, there's about 6,600 homeless men, women, children and families currently living the streets in downtown Atlanta. According the 2013 census of homeless people in downtown Atlanta. "According to the latest biennial census by the Metro Atlanta Tri-Jurisdictional Collaborative on Homelessness, also known as Tri-J, 6,664 people were living on the streets, in shelters, and transitional housing in the city and counties," reported by Thomas Wheatley of Creative Loafing ATL.
It is not rare to see a homeless person in downtown Atlanta. In fact, many of them have a bad reputation for causing trouble in the area. One thing stands out, THESE PEOPLE NEED HELP! Majority of them walk around on empty stomachs. Most people who walk past them would rather judge them than help them with something to eat. I chose to be different and that is why Maryam Shumate's Dream Big Foundation was started. I was going to wait until my life got to a place where I was financially settled and buoyant to start but God impressed it on my heart to start anyway. I realized that I don't have to be GREAT to start but have to START to be GREAT!
With the help of my husband and some of my YouTube subscribers; who purchase my t-shirts, I was able to step out in FAITH a couple of months ago to do our first Food Outreach. Now we have just had a couple of our church family join us to reach out and feed the homeless. We are very excited to be used by God as vessels of change. Our next community food outreach is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 am. Join us if you can and let's change the world, one homeless person at a time! Please feel free to purchase our t-shirts because all proceeds go to meeting needs in the community and also donate as you feel led to do so. God bless you!
